If you are in need of a crown, we use the highest quality equipment to fit and fabricate a restoration piece that looks just like your natural teeth.
What is a Crown?A crown is a cap that is placed over your natural tooth and has several uses. It can restore a broken tooth, allowing it to look whole again. It can hold a cracked tooth together, preventing further damage. It protects a weak tooth. As a cosmetic fix, it covers a discolored or misshapen tooth, and if you have dental implants, it can be used to cover the screws that hold your implants in place. Crowns can be made out of many different materials, including metal, porcelain fused to metal, resin and ceramic. With traditional crowns, no matter which material you choose, the restoration process is the same.
The Traditional Crown ProcedureNormally, when you need a crown, you first visit your dentist for a thorough examination. This exam may often include x-rays to assess the condition of the root and the surrounding jawbone. When you receive your crown, you are given a local anesthetic. Part of the damaged tooth is removed, enabling a crown to fit properly over it. An impression of your teeth and gums is taken, which will then be sent off to a lab so your crown can be created. This process usually takes two to three weeks. In the meantime, you are given your temporary crown. When your permanent crown is ready, you must return to the dentist office to have it fitted and cemented in place.
The CEREC® DifferenceInstead of the hassle of a traditional procedure, we offer you a much better, time saving alternative: CEREC®. CEREC® stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics. Ceramic is the most natural looking material, with the ability to blend right in with the rest of your teeth. Not only that, but it is perfect for those with metal allergies and it is friendly to your gums, allowing the gum tissue to reform around it. This procedure is similar to most CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) processes. It allows your dentist to perform a same day restoration by designing and creating a strong, custom ceramic crown right there in the office. Rather than taking an actual impression of your jaw that needs to be sent off to a lab, the CEREC® machine creates an optical impression that it can then use to craft the crown you need. This eliminates your need for a temporary crown as well as a second visit, thus saving you valuable time. Even if you need multiple restorations, CEREC® can accommodate. The machine is capable of producing multiple crowns, allowing you to receive the number you need all in one visit.
